Serbian parliament passes university law

The Serbian parliament has passed a controversial law which tightens state control over universities, despite protests by students.

Earlier, riot police clashed with several hundred students demonstrating against the legislation outside the parliament building in Belgrade.

Reports say several students were arrested as police dispersed the crowd.

The students have threatened further protests against the law, which also includes tighter controls on student grants.
