Bahamas repatriates 71 Cuban boat people
The Foreign Ministry in the Bahamas have said they have repatriated seventy-one Cuban refugees. They said they intend to send home more than fifty remaining Cuban exiles held at a detention centre near the capital, Nassau, in the near future. More than one-hundred-and-twenty Cuban migrants were sent home last week, despite an offer from the Nicaraguan government to grant them asylum. The Foreign Ministry said the authorities were keeping to their policy of discouraging Cuban migrants from heading for the Bahamas. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
