Indian state seeks to stop terrorist activity

The government of the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu has put an anti-terrorism bill before the state assembly after a series of bombs in February which killed more than sixty people in the city of Coimbatore.

The bill seeks to punish acts of terrorism with the death sentence or life imprisonment.

Possession of a firearm would also be an offence.

The government wants to establish a special court to try terrorism related cases, where a confession made to a police officer would be admissable as evidence.
