Russian officals say Chinese poachers killed

Russian officials say that a border patrol ship opened fire on a Chinese vessel caught fishing illegally in the Bering Strait, killing two crew members and injuring others.

Officials said that they had received information about the Chinese boat from a United States coast guard aircraft flying in the area.

A Russian border patrol ship and a US coastguard vessel gave chase.

A spokesman for the Russian border guard service said that warning shots were fired to stop the Chinese boat, but they were ignored.
