Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell had surgery in a breast cancer scare when she was 18, it has been reported. The 25-year-old needed the emergency operation to remove a small lump from her right breast. She then had a three-day wait while tests were carried out on the lump before doctors gave her the all clear. Geri said she feared she might lose her breast. "It was hideous," she said.
Sir Paul McCartney has made his first public outing with his family since the death of his wife Linda - and lit a candle to her memory. The music legend and his son James stopped at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and, alongside other visitors, lit a candle. The pair also spent time in quiet thought as they remembered Linda, 56, who died last month at the couple's ranch in the United States after losing a long battle against cancer.
A top Broadway producer is planning a musical based on the life and music of Frank Sinatra, according to US reports. Stewart Lane told the New York Post he would not be looking for a "Sinatra impersonator" to take the lead. I'd like to get someone to capture Sinatra's magnetism. They don't have to sound and look exactly like him." Lane added that he hoped to win the Sinatra family's blessing for the plan.
Moves to create a Scottish Hollywood on the back of films such as Trainspotting and The Full Monty have come under fire. Despite the success of Mrs Brown and My Name is Joe, critics believe attempts to expand the industry with lottery money could end in disaster. They claim it would lead to a glut of low-quality productions. But Scottish Screen Chief John Archer, who wants a £5m studio in Glasgow, said "We want to see this industry grow."
Hollywood's latest blockbuster Godzilla failed to live up to expectations when it opened in America at the weekend. The movie, which cost 75m to make, took 34.7m over the four-day holiday period, compared to the 56.4m grossed by The Lost World last year. Film industry analyst Arthur Rockwell said: "In a word, Godzilla was a flop." Godzilla, which opens over here on July 17, stars Matthew Broderick.
Jane Seymour has spoken of her upset at the decision by CBS to pull the plug on Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman. The British actress said: "As you can imagine, I was stunned and devastated to realise that having a loyal global audience meant nothing. "I feel that I'm leaving a family, not just our daily family on the set, but all the millions of people out there who valued Dr Quinn as something they could share with their children." |
