Hong Kong refuses Chinese dissident entry
The immigration authorities in Hong Kong say they refused entry to a prominent Chinese dissident who tried to enter the territory on Monday after he had attended a conference in the Portuguese enclave of Macau. Officials said they questioned the United States-based dissident, Yan Jiaqi, for about an hour anddecided he did not meet entry requirements. Mr Yan was head of a political think-tank in China supported by the former communist party general-secretary, Zhao Ziyang, who was ousted during the pro-democracy protests in 1989.
