Aftershock in Bolivia hampers earthquake relief efforts
A strong aftershock at the scene of Friday's earthquake in central Bolivia has hampered efforts to deliver aid to thousands of people left homeless. Reports from the area say Monday's aftershock demolished more houses, causing panic. At least eighty people were killed by the earthquake, but rescuers say they expect to find more bodies. Relief work in the central Cochabamba provinceremains slow because of a lack of electricity and heavy machinery. Bolivian officials say survivors are without proper shelter and drinking water, and are at risk from disease. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
