Japan responds to China's anger over film
The former Japanese prime minister, Tomiichi Murayama, has gone to China to acknowledge the suffering caused by the Japanese invasion in 1937. The Chinese news agency said he laid a wreath at the memorial to victims of the Rape of Nanjing, and said Japan's actions had brought disaster to the Chinese and Asian peoples. Mr Murayama's visit follows public denunciation in China of a new Japanese film called "Pride" which says the country's wartime leader, General Tojo, was not guilty of war crimes.
