EU urges Timor solution
European Union foreign ministers have urged the new Indonesian government to work with the United Nations to find an internationally-acceptable solution to the East Timor question. Their remarks were echoed by the Nobel peace prize winner, Bishop Carlos Filipi Ximenes Belo, in an interview with a Spanish newspaper. He said all sides must be prepared to make concessions, beginning with the Indonesian army and then the guerrillas in East Timor. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
