Strikes disrupt West Bengal

Rail and air services in the Indian state of West Bengal have been badly disrupted by a strike called by the opposition alliance of the BJP and the Trinamul Congress.

Government run buses and trams have been operating under heavy security.

The action was called against the communist run state government following allegations of unfair practices in the run up to village council elections.
