Cassini's Voyage
Cassini was launched by a powerful Titan IV rocket, but more than 99% of its journey to Saturn was an unpowered coast through space.

On the way it passed Venus, Earth and Jupiter.

On the first leg of its journey, it used its antenna as a shield against the sun's fierce heat.

As it flew past Earth in August 1999, it was travelling at 19 kilometres per second, or about 45,000 mph.
