In pictures: Building Africa's mobile highway

Tanzania is a vast country, covering 364,000 square miles. Its landscape includes empty steppe and mountainous terrain, providing mobile engineers with logistical challenges.

But while base stations are gradually appearing across remote parts of the country, national parks such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater remain out of bounds.
