In Pictures: The long, hot summer
UK records

As England baked on its hottest ever day, on 10 Aug, the rest of the UK just missed out on new records.

Scotland came within 0.1C of its 1908 record when it reached 32.7C at Charterhall on 9 Aug.

The 33.0C at Valley, Anglesey, on 5 Aug fell short of the Welsh high of 1990.

Castlederg's 29.3C on 8 Aug was 1.5C below Northern Ireland's record.
