Aztec foods

Cactus, fly eggs and duck intestines are some of the delicacies on sale in Mexico City's biggest market, the Mercado de la Merced, which boasts foods that have been eaten in this part of the world since before the Aztecs.

But for many Mexicans who earn less than $2 (1) a day, these traditional foods are too expensive.

Corn dough pressed into tortillas is the staple food for many Mexicans. An estimated 300billion tortillas are eaten each year.
