Many of Gort's Brazilians live in new homes, built during Ireland's long economic boom. They are more modern than those they could afford back home. But it's not enough to stop them leaving.

"I've been very happy here. It's been good," says Joao Luis da Silva Costa, 27.

"But I'm not earning enough money any more, so I'm going home. I've done my time. It's enough."
