Tucker Sno-Cat

Many of the objects have been donated and represent significant milestones in the history of science and technology.

The Tucker Sno-Cat 743 was used as part of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic expedition of 1957, the first motorised crossing of the icy continent.

Three of the vehicles set out on the trip, crossing 2158 miles (3472 km) in 99 days, but only two returned.

Scientists carried out a seismic survey of the ice cap, estimating that it was 8,000ft (2400m) thick.
