In pictures: Ghana's water lifeline
River transport

Ghana’s south-eastern Volta Region is the most scenic part of the country, full of mountains and meandering rivers.

It gets its name from the country’s biggest river, which is central to just about every part of local life.

The River Volta is used for fishing, farming, tourism-related activities and domestic chores.

The Volta also facilitates transport for the people. After a hard day’s work, this family returns home by canoe, taking along some firewood to cook the evening meal.
