Nineteen years of war with rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army has left 1.6 million internally displaced people (IDPs), suffering physical and psychological scars as well as abject poverty.

On average an IDP rarely makes more than 1,500 shillings a day – a bit less than a dollar.

They, too, find it hard to afford a mosquito net or to reach a clinic for treatment – like this woman, seen through a curtain screen, who struggled to ensure her young child got medical attention.
