Gymnastic beginnings

Mays stretches during a break. A keen gymnast from the age of six, she later became a known karate expert after stepping in to take part in a women’s championship and winning after only two days' training.

This then led to karate and other sports-related roles in television series, such as in 1992, when she played the trainer of an emperor who wanted to learn to swim.

Although she holds a black belt in karate, Mays left the sport seven years ago to concentrate on her acting.
