The Volga region is dominated by the Volga, a majestic river that flows from Moscow down to the Caspian Sea.

In summer, the locals lounge about on narrow strips of sand or lie on concrete piers where abandoned building projects stand forgotten behind them.

Aging cruise ships carry aging holiday-makers up and down the river, nudging past tankers bringing oil from the Caspian Sea.
