Lollipop lady was drunk on patrol

Lollpop sign A lollipop lady has admitted risking the lives of children by turning up to work the worse for alcohol.

Linda McLaughlin, 51, was drunk when she arrived to help youngsters get to Kinross Primary School.

She admitted in court in Perth that she endangered her own life and the lives of the children, carrying out her duties in a reckless manner.

McLaughlin also admitted a separate charge of failing to provide a breath test.

She will be sentenced next month. McLaughlin was banned from driving for the time being.

Unsteady

McLaughlin, of Mill Street, Kinross, had helped several children across the road outside the school in June before it became apparent she was drunk.

Witnesses reported seeing her walking backwards and forwards across the road, as if she was unsteady on her feet.

A concerned parent smelled alcohol and called the police. When they arrived they found her to be under the influence of drink, arrested her and took over the crossing patrol.

Sentence was deferred while background reports are drawn up.
