European Court of Auditors

The Luxembourg-based court calls itself the "financial conscience" of the European Union.

It is independent from other EU institutions and is tasked with keeping track of EU money, making sure that it has been properly managed by the commission.

It aims to make EU spending more efficient and inform EU citizens better about where their money goes.

On the basis of the Court of Auditors' reports, the European Parliament gives the commission final discharge for the execution of each annual budget.
