New Dales railway station opens

Wensleydale Railway A railway station in the Yorkshire Dales reopened on Thursday after being closed for half a century.

The stop at Finghall has become the latest development on the Wensleydale Railway which runs services between Redmire and Leeming Bar.

Eight trains a day will now use the station between Leyburn and Bedale.

Although no passengers trains called there, Finghall was used in the 1970s by the BBC TV programme All Creatures Great and Small.

The next key development will be extending services to Northallerton where it will link with trains on the East Coast Main Line.

Wensleydale Railway hopes this can be achieved by Easter.
