Many accused the local administration of reacting slowly
Four top local officials have been transferred after a blaze at a trade fair in the Indian city of Meerut.

The authorities announced that the district magistrate and his deputy, as well as the district and city police chiefs were all being removed.

At least 50 people died in Monday's blaze, which swept through three tents.

The local officials were the focus of a public outcry. They and the fair organisers, against whom charges have been filed, are accused of negligence.

More than 100 injured people are still being treated in nearly 30 hospitals and clinics following the fire.

More seriously injured patients are being treated in Delhi.
