In quotes: 'Roadmap' reaction

The UN, US, Russia and the EU have finally presented their plan for peace has finally been presented to Palestinian and Israeli leaders.

BBC News Online looks at the reaction to the "roadmap" from key players in the conflict.

Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, spiritual leader of the Islamic militant group, Hamas:

The road map aims to assure security for Israel at the expense of the security of our people. It is a plan to liquidate the Palestinian cause [for independence]. It is rejected by us...

Palestinians would be required to liquidate the resistance and disarm themselves and then Israel would be free to give or not to give, to negotiate or not to negotiate...

Our resistance is continuing and it will continue and no-one will stop it. We should not drop our weapons before we get our rights.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas:

There will be a real peace only without settlements. You [the Israeli people] have to choose. We reject terrorism from any party and in all its forms. We extend our hand in negotiation.

We don't accept any changes in the roadmap as the Israelis are demanding. The roadmap is for implementation, not for negotiation.

We are ready to face our responsibility from the political and security point of view.

Mark Sofer, Israeli foreign policy spokesman:

Before anything can happen we are hoping and praying that [the Palestinian Prime Minister] takes the bull by the horns and implements what he said he would... He has to really bring an end to terrorism.

Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Palestinian legislature:

We want to see that the international community is involved to... make sure that Israel complies by stopping this policy of assassinations, incursions, killings, home demolitions, land confiscations, expansion of settlements. All these are Israeli obligations as per the roadmap.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair:

There is now a real opportunity for both sides... to achieve a just and lasting settlement. I do not underestimate the commitment it will require but the prize is enormous: peace and security for Israel living side by side with an independent, democratic and viable Palestinian state.

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov:

The full realisation of the road map by both sides should bring about the stable, much hoped for peace in the Middle East, which will not only be in the interests of the Israelis and Palestinians, but of all people who live in the Middle East.
