Heavy Snow causes chaos in Jersey

Rue de la Croute in St Ouen
All of the island's schools except one were closed

Heavy snow in the north of Jersey has led to the cancellation of bus services, the closure of all but one school and the airport's runway.

Jersey Airport said the runway would remain closed until 1500 GMT and only St Michael's School remains open.

Transport and Technical Services staff are continuing to grit roads around the island.

Motorists have reported problems on the roads in St Saviour and other areas of the island.

Before the closure of the airport there were major problems for people travelling to and from UK airports, due to the closure of other airports.

Connex has now suspended all buses apart from route one to Gorey, the number 15 service to the airport and the number 18 service to Le Marais.

The Education Department decided to delay the start of term after the school bus service was cancelled due to icy road conditions.

It is not yet known whether the schools will reopen on Thursday.
