Teacher praised over school 'gun'

Grainville School
The school has about 600 11 to 16-year-old pupils

A Jersey teacher who confronted a man thought to be carrying a gun near a St Saviour school has been praised.

Police, including armed officers, were called to Grainville School on Thursday after the man was seen nearby and was told to leave by a teacher.

A 24-year-old man was arrested later and a replica firearm found. He was released while enquiries continued.

Grainville's head teacher Dave Cahill praised the teacher's actions and said pupils had been told what happened.

Grainville is a secondary school with about 600 students aged 11 to 16.
