Police visit known sex offenders

Police are visiting known sex offenders in Jersey and asking them to stay in touch on a voluntary basis.

There are currently 121 offenders living on the island whom police believe require monitoring and management in the community.

Jersey has no formal sex offenders' register but new legislation is due to be debated by the States in September.

Ahead of this, police are trying to identify the offenders who pose the greatest risk.

Senator Wendy Kinnard, the minister in charge of the potential new law, said police are trying to do all they can to ensure the public are protected from convicted sex offenders who appear to be at risk of re-offending.
