Architect praises church project
St Thomas Church
A new sound and lighting system has been installed
The UK architect in charge of restoring a Jersey church has praised the outcome of the project.

Islanders helped to raise the 500,000 needed to restore St Thomas' Roman Catholic Church.

Gerard Smith, who began planning six years ago, said the work had been on a bigger scale than his previous job of renovating Nottingham Cathedral.

The central aisle inside the building has been restored and a sound and lighting system installed.

"It's been fantastic, it's a beautiful church," said Mr Smith.

"When I first went to see the Canon six years ago, we could see the potential of the building but it has taken that time really in developing with him and the parish to see what exactly the correct solution was for the building.

"You don't often get to see a lot of buildings like this in your life, in a way it's the scale of a cathedral and very few buildings like this get re-ordered like this."
