Police said drivers will be spot-checked throughout 2007
The number of people charged with drink-driving during the Christmas 2006 period in Jersey fell by 20%.

Nearly 9,500 drivers were stopped during the month-long campaign held during December run between the States police and parish honorary officers.

Twelve people were charged with drink-driving, compared to 15 the year before, the force said.

States Police said there would still be spot-checks on the island's roads for drink-driving during 2007.
