Winter vomiting virus hits island

Some wards have been closed to new admissions at Noble's Hospital on the Isle of Man following an outbreak of the so called winter vomiting virus.

An Isle of Man Government spokesman said the admissions were halted as a precaution following several cases of the Noro Virus on the island.

The bug causes vomiting and diarrhoea to those affected.

The government has issued advice to people to prevent the spread of infection in the current outbreak.

These include avoiding hospitals or old people's homes if you have the virus symptoms until 48 hours after they have ceased or contacting your GP by phone rather than visiting the surgery.
