Government wins deportation appeal

The British government has won an appeal upholding a decision to deport a Pakistani Muslim cleric, Shafiq ur Rehman.

Mr Rehman, an imam in north-west England, has been accused of recruiting British Muslims to fight against Indian rule in Kashmir, and has been described as a threat to national security.

He won an appeal against deportation last year at a special immigration tribunal, which adjudicates on deportations ordered on national security grounds.

Mr Rehman is to be allowed to appeal to the House of Lords following the latest ruling by the court of appeal.
