In Britain, twenty-eight people are due to appear in court today Tuesday after part of a trial crop of genetically-modified maize was destroyed in Norfolk in eastern England.

Among those charged in connection with the damage is the head of the environmental pressure group, Greenpeace, in the United Kingdom, Lord Melchett.

The British government has licensed seven sites across Britain for experiments with genetically modified crops.

Last week more than five-hundred protestors caused extensive damage to a field of modified oil seed rape.
