Germany sued for 1999 air strike
Relatives of people killed in a Nato airstrike against a Yugoslav town in 1999 are suing the German Government for more than than $3.5m.

The case involves the bombing of a bridge in the town of Varvarin during the Kosovo campaign.

Ten people were killed and 17 seriously injured in the raid.

The plaintiffs argue it was in breach of the Geneva convention because the bridge was not a military target.

They say that Germany, as a Nato member, owes them compensation, although its aircraft did not take part in the airstrike.

At the time the alliance said the bridge was a legitimate target.
