Vietnam cracks down on dissidents

A court in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, has sentenced several men to jail terms for spreading propaganda against the state.

The dissidents were accused of distributing leaflets and banners calling for democracy and an end to the country's one party rule.

Six other dissidents, including the writer Nguyen Xuan Nghia, have gone on trial in the port city of Haiphong, while another activist will be tried in Hanoi.

Humphrey Hawksley reports.
