Snow hampers China quake aid

Reports from north-western China say rescue teams have been working in bad weather to try to reach the victims of an earthquake that killed at least 11 people on Monday.

The state-run news agency Xinhua quoted officials as saying that heavy snow and temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius had delayed the arrival of relief supplies and rescue staff.

Tents, quilts and warm clothes were being sent to affected residents in the mountainous Zhaosu region, near China's border with Kazakhstan.

Hundreds of homes collapsed and at least 34 people were reported injured.

In February, an earthquake in the same region killed at least 250 people and injured thousands.
