Chilean singer's widow files lawsuit

The widow of the Chilean singer and composer, Victor Jara, has filed a lawsuit against the people - as yet unidentified - who killed her husband.

Mr Jara was tortured and murdered only days after the military coup in September 1973 in a sports stadium, Estadio de Chile, in the capital, Santiago.

His widow, Joan Jara, lodged the lawsuit with a Chilean judge, Juan Guzman, who is investigating charges against the country's former military leader, Augusto Pinochet.

Mr Pinochet is currently under house arrest in Britain awaiting extradition proceedings to Spain where he is wanted on charges of crimes against humanity.
