Landslide for Gambia ruling party
President Yahya Jammeh
The results tighten President Yahya Jammeh's grip on power
President Yahya Jammeh's ruling party won an overwhelming majority in Thursday' legislative elections, official results show.

His Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party won 42 of the 48 elected seats in the National Assembly.

Two opposition parties took five remaining seats, with one going to an independent.

Five more seats are to be filled by appointees of President Jammeh.

Mr Jammeh was re-elected last September.

Opposition leader Oussainou Darboe accused the security forces of hampering his party's campaigning.
