McFly signed to rock theme park
McFly have had 13 top 10 UK hits, including seven number ones
Pop band McFly will follow in the footsteps of Girls Aloud by playing Oakwood theme park in Pembrokeshire.

The boy band, who have had seven UK number ones, have signed on for the concert on 19 July this year.

The concert is the second to be staged at the attraction by young promoters Alex Darlington, aged 20, and Aaron Kirkhouse, 19.

They started organising gigs in the county while still at school and aim to establish Pop Park as an annual event.

Like last year's Girls Aloud event ticket holders will be able to use all of the rides at Oakwood before McFly play a full set later in the evening.

Mr Kirkhouse said: "Last year we did the show with Girls Aloud and it was an amazing success.

"To have McFly this year is really exciting and its going to be even bigger."

The duo have teamed up with online social networking website Bebo to promote the gig and sell the 5,000 tickets.

"We will be posting video blogs, running competitions etc. It's not something that's been done before," he added.

"We are planning for this to be an annual event [at Oakwood] and we are looking to work with other theme parks and attractions in the future."

Last year's gig helped the friends, who set-up their own company Mint Gigs, reach the finals of the Daily Mail Young Entrepreneurs of the Year awards.
