Furniture plea by charity scheme
Sassy Hicks and Glynis Zeal
The charity is struggling to fill their showroom
A furniture recycling scheme in the south Wales valleys is so successful that the charity has almost sold out.

Now workers at Circulate, based in Blaenavon, are making an urgent appeal for more furniture and appliances.

Organisers are desperate to restock their showroom with reconditioned fridges, washing machines and sofas.

Run by the Garnsychan Partnership, the charity has already made 35,000 this year, with all profits being ploughed back into community projects.

Sassy Hicks and Glynis Zeal who manage the project said demand for furniture and appliances was outstripping supply.

"We offer really good quality stuff that is affordable," explained Ms Hicks.

"Some furniture recycling schemes are limited to people who are on benefits but ours is open to everyone.

We are really short of appliances like fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, anything really

"We are really busy - in fact this has been the busiest year for us yet and we've still got Christmas to come yet."

But the scheme has proved so popular that staff are struggling to keep the showroom stocked up and they are desperate for more donations.

Donated furniture and appliances from the Torfaen area is picked up free of charge, taken back to the depot and goes through a series of inspections before being cleaned and offered for sale.

The scheme, which offers people on benefits a 15% discount, also provides free delivery of the goods.

"We are really short of appliances like fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, anything really," said Ms Zeal.

"We really need as much as we can get."

The scheme was set up to help people on low incomes buy quality furniture and appliances but it has also helped to reduce landfill and is now working with major companies to provide a wood recycling facility.

Unwanted pallets are turned into items like bird boxes and Wendy houses.
