Home town launch for BB Glyn Wise
Glyn Wise opens the centre
Glyn Wise said he was proud to open the new centre
Teenage TV Big Brother contestant Glyn Wise has officially opened a family centre in his home town.

The 19-year-old Big Brother 7 runner-up kicked off a series of events for the launch in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd.

Barnardo's Cymru Caban Bach will provide a nursery and "positive parenting" courses for local families.

The Incredible Years parenting courses - researched at the University of Wales, Bangor - have already being hailed a success by organisers.

Said centre manager Llinos Rowlands: "The nursery is great for the local children who get to mix together before heading off to school.

"It's also great for the parents, who can use the childcare to take some of the pressure off them, and get a chance to do something which they wouldn't normally be able to do, be it going on a training or education course or just offering a short period to do something else for their family."

The course is aimed at any parent who feel they could benefit from learning more about positive parenting, she said.

"Being a parent isn't easy. We believe anyone with children can gain something from the course.

"It's a chance for parents to get together and share their experiences, learn from and support each other, with the assistance of a Barnardo's worker."

Manon Haf Evans said she had learned a lot: "I've picked up new skills because my daughter goes to the nursery.

"She loves going there and it give the parents a break to either look for a job or to look for a course."

Mother-of-three Julia Roberts said: "I have three children aged 18, eight and four and it's given me new ideas so I have a better relationship with them.

"It was also good to share my experience with other parents in a similar position," she added.
