A popular Welsh language TV and radio presenter was killed after his motorbike collided with a lorry.

Geraint Griffith was a horticultural expert for the S4C gardening programme, Y Clwb Garddio.

He died after his motorbike collided with the lorry on the A5 Holyhead road at Gaerwen, Anglesey, on Thursday.

Mr Griffith, 30, lived in Rhosgadfan near Caernarfon with his wife, Rachel, and two young children, Iestyn, four, and Morgan, six months.

Nici Beech, S4C's commissioning editor for factual entertainment programmes, who is responsible for Y Clwb Garddio, said: "The news of Geraint Griffith's tragic death is a major blow and we offer our deepest sympathy to Geraint's family and friends.

"His contribution over the past four years as resident plant expert to Y Clwb Garddio has been invaluable.

"He was a popular member of Ffilmiau Cenad's production team who always presented his planting designs to viewers with great enthusiasm. He will be sorely missed."

Mr Griffith also contributed to BBC Radio Cymru.

Marian Wyn Jones, head of centre north for BBC Wales said: "We are all shocked and deeply saddened by Geraint's sudden death.

"His weekly slot on Jonsi's programme on Radio Cymru attracted a terrific following. Staff at the BBC are still reeling at the loss. He will be deeply missed and our hearts and sympathy are with the family at this difficult time."

Mr Griffith was trapped under the lorry after the accident, which happened at about 1525 GMT, and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Holyhead road was closed to traffic for several hours and diversions were set up along the A55.

North Wales Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 0845 607 1001.
