Mold postman murder appeal renewed seven years on

Paul Savage
A 100,000 reward remains on offer to catch the killers

Detectives say they are continuing to make progress in the seven year murder hunt for the killers of Flintshire postman Paul Savage.

He was battered to death with a wooden baton on 4 February, 2003, while on his delivery round in Mold.

Despite a £100,000 reward, and a new focus on the investigation last year, his killer has not been caught.

Renewing their appeal, police said they still believed that some individuals in the area held the key to the crime.

"I believe significant information is still known by certain individuals and would appeal to these individuals to contact me," said Det Ch Insp John Hanson, from North Wales Police.

"A reward of £100,000 continues to be offered for information leading to the arrest, charge and conviction of any person responsible for this murder."

Motive 'known'

The 30-year-old father-of-one, who was originally from Sale in Trafford, Greater Manchester, was attacked in Clayton Road in Mold.

He was found unconscious in a pool of blood and died from his injuries in hospital in Wrexham.

In 2005, detectives said they knew what the motive was for the killing, but were not prepared to release the details.

A year ago, North Wales Police announced that they were re-visiting the whole investigation with a team of officers.

The inquiry led to a fresh search of fields near the murder scene and new items undergoing forensic tests.

Police said in the last 12 months they had also traced a "number of new witnesses" following appeals.

Det Ch Insp Hanson added: "New evidence has been gathered during the last twelve months.

"However despite the progress we have made, I would continue to appeal for information from the community in Mold."

Anyone with information relating to Mr Savage's death is asked to contact 101 if in Wales, 0845 6071001 (Welsh line), 0845 6071002 (English line) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
