Dr Who fan builds garden tardis

A Doctor Who fan has built a life-size Tardis in his family's back garden.

Jake Theunissen from Cross Lanes near Wrexham spent six months building the replica police telephone box.

Now the lifelong Doctor Who fan plans to sell his model to the highest bidder on the eBay website.

Situated in a barn on the family's farm, the Time Lord's travelling machine looks like the famous Doctor has just landed in the rural village.

The 28-year-old said he is "delighted" with his model which he made from plywood after downloading the plans on the internet.

"I've always wanted one since I was small and it's been a pleasure to make," he said.

"I'm not obsessed with Doctor Who but I am a fan and a member of the Dr Who Appreciation Society.

"I liked it best when Tom Baker was Dr Who," he added.

As most Doctor Who fans would know, Tardis stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space.

It was the Doctor's time machine which was supposed to change shape to blend in with whichever time and place he landed.

However, according to television legend his Tardis got stuck in the shape of a police box in the early 1960s due to a faulty circuit when visiting London.

Unlike the TV version though, Jake's Tardis is not any bigger on the inside.

The architect student said he spent about 300 building the Tardis but hopes it will sell for up to 1,000 on eBay.

The cult BBC sci-fi programme will return to our screens next year, produced by BBC Wales. Christopher Eccleston will play the new Doctor.

Jake, who is largely self taught, said he may build a Dalek next.

Life on his farm in the small north Wales village may never be the same again.
