Llandow air crash survivor 'found in toilet'

Air crash survivor Melfyn Thomas, now 84, of Llanharan, Rhondda Cynon Taf, says the only thing he remembers from the Llandow airfield disaster of 1950 was that he was found in the toilet.

One of only three to survive the crash, which killed 80 on 12 March 1950, he was so seriously injured, remained in a coma for two days and spent months recovering at St Athan.

Then 25, he and his seven friends who died, were among jubilant rugby fans returning from Ireland after watching Wales win the Triple Crown. They crashed just yards from their final destination in what was at the time the world's worst air disaster.
