Oasis headline stadium rock gig

After months of negotiating, Oasis have been confirmed as the headline act for a winter rock festival in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium later this year.

Razorlight, the Foo Fighters and The Coral are also on the bill for Noise and Confusion on Saturday 10 December.

Millennium Stadium Manager Paul Sergeant said a winter gig at the stadium was a unique proposition.

"At that time of year, with 60,000 people inside, no one else can do it anywhere else in the country," he said.

According to Mr Sergeant, the latest concert announcement was the latest step in the stadium beginning to establish itself in music circles.

REM, U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have all performed there over the last year.

Stadium managers believe it could be an annual event

Organisers said the event would be a mix of established and up-and-coming live bands, and Mr Sergeant said Oasis' involvement was "a huge coup" after months of negotiations.

He added that the festival could develop into a larger annual event, as managers seek to fill the stadium all the year round. "We would like to think it is something that could grow," he added.

Tickets, costing 35, are set to go on sale this Friday.

Back in January, the roof was closed at the stadium for the Tsunami Relief concert featuring stars including Keane, Snow Patrol and the Manic Street Preachers.

The venue has also been hosting the prestigious FA Cup final and Carling Cup final, but will lose these matches after the new Wembley stadium opens next year.
