Bourne rules out AMs in Commons
Welsh Conservative leader Nick Bourne speaking in Blackpool
On the eve of the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool, Welsh Tory leader Nick Bourne has stated his party is committed to the National Assembly.
Mr Bourne said that all nine of the Welsh Tory Assembly Members would be focusing their full attention on Welsh affairs.
None, he said, would be seeking election to a seat in the House of Commons at the next General Election in 2002.
Mr Bourne's comments follow recent criticism of the decision by former north Wales MP Rod Richards and Alun Cairns to stand as the Conservative nomination for the Clwyd West Parliamentary seat.
"It is now the case that a not single member of the Tory benches will be applying for a seat in Westminster," said Mr Bourne.
"All my members are doing one full-time job and they are now saying they are ruling themselves out of Westminster and will be going for the Assembly again.
"We are a very committed group," Mr Bourne added.
