Flood waters wash out homes
Flooded garden in Mumbles
Around 30 homes were affected by the flood waters
Residents of a Swansea street began mopping up on Saturday after flood waters affected around 30 homes.

Firefighters used pumps to drain water out of homes at Ashleigh Road in the Mumbles area following heavy rain overnight on Friday.

Pumps were used to clear the water

Emergency services were also called to Penyrheol Comprehensive School, Gorseinon, Swansea after rain water affected four classrooms.

And motorists were urged to take care after widespread surface water caused problems throughout the Dyfed Powys force area.

The main A4067 Mumbles coast road was closed on Saturday as firefighters attempted to reduce water levels.

The bad weather caused subsidence at Woodbrook Terrace in Burry Port where the road collapsed creating a three-foot deep hole.

Extremely dangerous

The street remained open despite the hole which police said measured around eight feet in diameter.

An eight-foot long, four-foot wide stretch of pavement next to the hole also collapsed.

Meanwhile part of a road in west Wales crumbled away plunging 20 feet into a river below.

The unclassified road between Cwmmorgan and Cwmcych near Newcastle Emlyn was described as passable, but extremely dangerous.

Trapped cars

In the Llandeilo area two cars became trapped in flood water at Derwydd on the A483 on Saturday.

The trapped cars caused large tailbacks. The fire service were called to the scene at around 1000 BST.

The heavy downpours affected several properties across south west Wales.

A spokesperson for the Mid and West Wales Fire Service said Gorseinon seemed to have born the brunt of the problems.
