Spare the blushes

By Sean Curran
Political correspondent

POSTED: Thursday 21 April, 1655BST

To the great delight of the packed press benches in Court number 2, Mr Hemming's barrister was the former Conservative MP Jerry Hayes.

During exchanges about whether politicians could be trusted to carry out promises to change the rules on postal voting, the judge, Mr Justice Collins, pointed out that Mr Hayes knew all about political promises.
