Gordon Brown - from Treasury to Prime Minister

Four days after the general election, Gordon Brown announced he was to stand down as leader of the Labour Party once a new government had been established.

Mr Brown, Prime Minister since 2007, said he hoped a successor as Labour leader would be in place by September.

James Landale looks back at Gordon Brown's remarkable and eventful political career.
